Torch Bearer News

The Columbia School District designed and adopted this logo during the 1999-2000 school year. Alumni Chad Schedeler, as an outcome of the Board of Education's Communication Committee, created the logo. If one looks carefully at the torch of learning's flame, the initials of the Columbia School District can be seen (CSD). In addition, the motto "A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE" ties in with the mission of our educational institution...helping ALL learners to be prepared for "what happens next."

Just as in the construction of a building, the "future" for our students occurs brick by brick in a purposeful manner. On this web page, the reader can see the various building blocks the Columbia School District has put in place to help students reach their potential. The Mission Statement, Core Beliefs, Parameters, Student Expectations, etc., have been developed through a formal process which involved representatives from the staff, parents, students, and the community. The Board of Education has endorsed each of these important blocks. The Columbia School District has committed to continuously reflect on how and what we are providing students and the community. As such, each year goals are established at the board, administrative, building, and individual employee levels.

Core Beliefs

We believe...

...ALL students can learn.

...ALL students need a positive and safe learning environment.

...the community must be an integral part of the education process.

...that self-esteem and achievement will promote lifelong learning.

...educated citizens will positively impact and contribute to our global society.

District's Mission and Graduate Profile standards.

  • Site-based decisions will always be consistent with established district goals and objectives.

  • Decisions will have measurable outcomes.

  • New programs will not be accepted unless they are consistent with the district's strategic goals
and objectives, benefits clearly exceed the cost, and provisions are made for staff development
    and timely program evaluation.

  • No existing program or service will be retained unless benefits clearly exceed costs and it continues to make an optimum contribution to achieve the district's mission and objectives.

  • We will not tolerate behavior which diminishes the dignity or self worth of any individual or group.

  • We will capitalize on the benefits of diversity throughout the school district.
